James A. W. Heffernan, Professor of English Emeritus at Dartmouth College, is the author of six books on English Romantic poetry and on the relations between literature and visual art.
His latest book, Hospitality and Treachery in Western Literature (Yale University Press, April 2014), considers what hosts and guests do to as well as for each other in works of literature ranging from Homer’s Odyssey to Albert Camus’s short story, “The Guest.”
He is also founding editor of Review 19 (www.nbol-19.org), which has so far reviewed over 300 books on English and American literature of the nineteenth century.
